Talented young Filipino-Canadian Maria Lourdes Aragon became an overnight sensation after Lady Gaga told the world about her talents on Twitter. Aragon’s cover of Gaga’s “Born This Way” has received over 700,000 views in less than 48 hours. It all began with a quick and surprisingly heartfelt tweet by international pop star Lady Gaga: “Can’t stop crying watching this. This is why I make music. She is the future.” The subject of the video in question is 10-year-old Maria Lourdes Aragon, a Filipino-Canadian based in Winnipeg.
Just five days after the release on February 11 of Born This Way —the eponymous carrier single from Lady Gaga’s upcoming album— Aragon had uploaded a video of herself to YouTube singing her own version of the song

The video was also picked up by other foreign celebrities, including New York-based singer-actor Jay Brannan; singer-songwriter and Paramore vocalist Hayley Williams; and Ellen Degeneres —on whose television show Aragon’s kababayan Charise Pempengco had earlier gained widespread fame in the US.
That last tweet by Degeneres has resulted in a wave of public clamor online to get the young talent on The Ellen Show. The movement has spawned a Facebook Fan group as well as several hashtags on Twitter, the most notable being #GetMariaOnEllen, which was apparently initiated by supportive Winnipeg locals.
‘Pretty amazing’
In an interview with Yahoo! OMG!, Aragon said that it was “pretty amazing” that Lady Gaga had tweeted about her video.
“Oh, (I posted it) just last night. I don’t really know what time I put it on YouTube but Lady Gaga tweeted it at, like, seven in the morning or earlier,” she said.
“My sisters and my dad — they were kind of freaking out! They’re like, ‘Lady Gaga tweeted you!'” she added.
When asked what she would like to say about Lady Gaga, Aragon simply said:
“I just want to say that she writes good songs. She has good meaning to her songs and that I really do idolize her.” Article lifted from KabayanTV.com
