Sa 7,000 nag-audition, 16 lamang ang napiling maging kalahok sa pinakasikat na singing contest sa España ang Operación Triunfo. Isa rito ay ang 18 taong gulang na Pinay na ipinanganak at lumaki sa Barcelona, Spain na si Alexandra Masangkay Escalona. Ito ang naging komentaryo ng isa sa mga hurado matapos awitin ni Alexandra Masangkay Escalona ang awiting ‘Hero’ ni Mariah Carey.
Mapapanood sa video sa ibaba na tatlo silang umawit ng iisang kanta ngunit siya lamang ang umawit sa Ingles at mapalad na nakalusot para sa huling sabak ng audition ng pinakasikat na singing contest dito sa Spain–ang Operación Triunfo.
Nagtuluy-tuloy na ito at kagabi, Linggo, Enero 16, ay umani ng papuri sa mga hurado si Alexandra matapos niyang awitin ang kantang Español na ‘Equivocada’ . At dahil na rin sa kagandahan ni Alexandra, hindi napigilan ng isang hurado na tanungin siya: ‘¿Qué os dan de comer en Filipinas para que salgáis así?’ (Ano ang pinapakain sa inyo sa Pilipinas para maging ganyan kayo (kagaganda)? Ngumiti na lang siya at sinabing ‘arroz, mucho arroz’ (kanin, maraming kanin).
Sa mga hindi nakapanood ng kanyang performance kagabi, kinanta niya ang ‘Equivocada’ ni Thalia. Heto ang video kung saan lumabas din ang iba pang mga kalahok:
Matatandaang nanalo na rin si Alexandra sa Global Pinoy Singing Idol (pangatlong puwesto) at itinanghal na kauna-unahang Mutya ng Barcelona. Kasalukuyang nag-aaral ng Chemical Engineering si Alexandra sa Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña.
Minsan siyang tinanong ng Ang Bagong Filipino kung bakit siya parating sumasali sa mga patimpalak. ”…Porque querría. No para ganarlos sino para conocer gente, hacer contactos y captar nuevas vivencias.” (Dahil gusto ko. Hindi para manalo kundi makipagkilala sa mga tao, magkaroon ng mga contact at magkaroon ng mga bagong karanasan.)

Gracias por el comentario y la pregunta. Conozco personalmente esta chica. Sí que habla tagalo y además era voluntaria para un programa de Centro Filipino para los jovenes que nacieron en Barcelona y que tienen padres filipinos. Según ella, ella es filipina, nacida en España y de cultura catalana.

Thanks for visiting our blog and for commenting. I have always thought that many Filipinos really have talent for singing. Just watch a variety show in the Philippines and you can see the quality of singers we have. In barrios and far-flung barangays, there are always singing contests and people can really sing. But of course the world doesn’t notice that, maybe because the international music scene is still dominated by the usual type of people. I, myself, was even asked by a friend to learn the techniques of singing and later learn to sing opera. I told him it’s not necessary, we Filipinos have talent, innate talent hahahha. Going back to Alexandra, she is really a smart and pretty girl and she has the qualities of a performer. She has stage presence. It is already impressive to see her make it to the 18. I saw one audition of a Chinese who grew up in Spain and he was also good, though he forgot some lines. He didn’t make it but the comments of the judges just reflect something, which I find offensive and…never mind. Hopefully we have another Jasmine Trias over here in Spain.

Sinceramente tengo sentimientos encontrados respecto a la entrada de esta chica en un concurso ya de por sí muy mediatizado y manipulado. Como filipina que soy (hija de inmigrantes filipinos, que ha nacido y crecido en Barcelona, como la misma Alexandra) sé que ella nos dará más visibilidad en una sociedad que muchas veces olvida que existimos y cohabitamos con ellos. Pero por otra parte vete a saber tú cómo la van a tratar (no olvidemos que sólo tiene 18 años, con lo que eso conlleva). En fin, yo espero que esta chica disfrute del momento 🙂

Yo entiendo perfectamente la situación de los jovenes que tienen padres inmigrantes, no sólo de los filipinos. Ya soís de aquí pero por tener rasgos diferentes, alli vienen la resistencia y no sabemos hasta cuando la gente va a decir es ‘española, de origen…’ Pero ya es un logro que Alexandra ha conseguido entrar y ahora brillar como dice un articulo que yo he leido y si que esperamos que ella disfrute el momento. Por mi parte, le considero filipina porque ella misma considera a su misma filipina:)
