The world sings our songs

28 Jul

Korean soprano Kyun Young Yi sings Nicanor Abelardo’s Mutya ng Pasig. In the song, the Mutya ng Pasig (the river nymph) speaks, in the light of the full moon, lamenting her kingdom and love that were lost, symbolizing the freedom lost by the Filipinos to the American colonizers.

And the Russian Boys Choir Dubná know Bisaya, at least the lyrics of Rosas Pandan. Written by Domingo Lopez, this Cebuano folk song talks about a mountain maid who loves to dance the balitaw

Another Russian, this time a violinist will play the Filipino version of Ave Maria and Francisco Santiago’s Anak Dalita in the Kundiman Concert on August 14, 20h30 p.m. at the Iglesia de San Agustin, Calle Hospital, Barcelona, Spain.

You proud, cool Pinoys, do you know your heritage?
