Green light for Pinoy driver’s license

19 Apr

Spain’s Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) is now ready to implement the Agreement on the Reciprocal Recognition and Exchange of Driver’s License between the Philippines and Spain.

According to a memo of the Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona, the DGT will be ready to receive inquiries and appointments from holders of LTO driver’s license through its hotline number (060) starting this Thursday, 22 April 2010.

In 2006, the Philippines was the ‘invited country’ in Casa Asia’s Festival Asia. Our very own jeepney was in Barcelona, proud and present at Mercat de les Flors and even hit the streets of Avenida Diagonal. Daniel Infante Tuaño; photo from bocadorada.com

This is great news! Just phoned 060 and they said that they are still unaware of this and no appointments could be given as of yet. I may need to phone on the 22nd of April to be sure. Been waiting for this for so long.

Dear Aron, I’m happy for you and for all the Filipinos in Spain who already got an appointment and soon will get their LTO driver’s license recognized. Perhaps you could start planning our Mediterranean road trip? Too bad I don’t drive.

It was put into halt but you can now apply again. You can call DGT at 060 and they will tell you the requirements for the ‘canje’. I just called the Philippine Consulate in Barcelona and they have informed me that all those who want to have their LTO-issued driver’s license recognized by the Spanish government should make sure first that their LTO LICENSE IS STILL VALID. Otherwise, they have to go to the Philippines to apply for a renewal because the Spanish government does not honor certifications nor authorizations. For more information you can call the Philippine Consulate at 934 194 258 or you can send them an email at barcelonapcg@gmail.com.

do you know anyone who has already swapped their fil license for a spanish one? i have a friend (in zaragosa) who seems to be having a hard time, he’s got all the papers completed, he says that there is a problem with the Philippines in terms of verification.

The problems in verification were raised before but I think there are some who have been able to swap their license. I’m sorry I don’t know them personally.

I would suggest you or your friend to raise these issues to concerned authorities: DGT, the Philippine embassy in Madrid or the Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona. I personally called the Consulate to clarify your concern this morning and they said that they would be glad to answer queries about the ‘canje’. Thank you and good luck!
